Lilium ‘Oriental White/Pink’ provides highly fragrant and beautifully coloured blooms year after year and is sure to draw attention throughout the summer months.
When planted en masse these lilies make for the perfect cut flower with stunning trumpet-shaped blooms atop tall stems. They are also ideal for planting in summer borders and tubs, or in pots in the greenhouse.
The ‘Oriental White/Pink’ lily is a herbaceous perennial with a rigidly upright and towering form that looks great amongst a couple of finer or coarser plants for an effective composition.
Lilies such as the ‘Oriental White/Pink’ variety will grow up to 90cm tall with a spread of up to 30cm and should be underplanted with lower-growing perennials. This height tends to require that the lilies be staked in order to avoid drooping. They grow at a fast rate and if cared for can be expected to last up to 10 years.
They prefer a heavy, well drained soil with a good covering of peat in order to retain moisture in the soil. These bulbs should be planted between March and June. Aim to plant the bulbs in a position protected from strong winds where they will receive sun or partial shade but try to avoid hot conditions such as along a south facing wall. The bulbs should be planted approximately 15cm deep and 30cm apart.
For pot planting aim for one bulb per 15cm pot or three bulbs to a 25cm pot. Quarter fill the pot with compost and lay in the bulbs, point upwards, then cover with compost, adding more as the lily grows.
Oriental lilies will usually flower around July to August.
