Hosta ‘Frances Williams’

The Hosta ‘Frances Williams’ is amongst the most popular Hostas ever produced with strongly veined, heart-shaped, grey-green leaves with irregular margins of greenish-yellow. These leaves can grow as large as 30cm long forming an impressive variegated display, earning the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.

Funnel-shaped lilac flowers appear between June and July, on 75cm long stems, however, the primary attraction of this deciduous perennial is its impressive foliage. An easy grower, they can reach heights of up to 80cm with a spread of 120cm.

Grown in-house at Gates Garden Centre, ‘Frances Williams’ Hostas are best planted in a shade garden, mixed with other perennials in beds and borders. They can be used in both city and informal cottage gardens and can also be planted in containers. They are particularly effective when used as groundcover or to underplant shrubs and roses.

Plant from its 3 litre pot into a position of partial or full shade, in fertile, moist and well drained soil. Remove spent foliage as required and clear up dead foliage when it dies back at the end of the growing season.
