The ‘First Frost’ Hosta is a herbaceous perennial that will grow into a mound of blue-green leaves. These leaves emerge with a yellow margin early in the spring, turning to a darker green centre and white margin later in the season.

Light lavender flowers appear on 70cm stems between June and July while the thick foliage will last all the way through to the first frost. Easy to grow and maintain, it will grow to a height of around 45cm and a spread of 90cm.

Grown in-house at Gates Garden Centre, the ‘First Frost’ Hosta is ideal among other perennials in beds and borders. It is perfect as groundcover or to underplant shrubs and roses and can be used in both city and informal country gardens.

Plant in a position of full or partial shade into fertile, moist and well drained soil. Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage, remove spent foliage as required and clear up dead foliage when it dies back at the end of the growing season. Propagate by division in late summer or early spring.
