The Hosta ‘Catherine’ is a deciduous, clump-forming perennial that produces large, blue-green leaves that are streaked with a central splash of yellowish-green that turns into a cream colour with age.
This Hosta will also produce 5cm long, bell-shaped, pale lavender flowers from June to July. It is easy to grow can reach a height of around 40cm with a spread of up to 70cm.
These ‘Catherine’ Hostas, grown in-house at Gates Garden Centre, are sold in 3 litre pots and are best planted in a shaded garden, mixed with other perennials in beds and borders. They also excel as groundcover or when used to underplant shrubs or roses. They can be used in both city and informal cottage gardens and can also be planted in containers.
Grow in fertile, moist and well drained soil in part shade with shelter from cold, dry winds. Protect from slugs and snails and propagate by division in early spring or late summer. Remove spent foliage as required and clear up dead foliage when it dies back at the end of the growing season.
