Lonicera Periclymenum ‘Fragrant Cloud’ is a vigorous, twining woody, honeysuckle climber. Its deep pink, spidery blooms with contrasting beige interiors are borne from June to September, with a heavenly scent, along the stretch of paired, oval mid-green leaves. It also produces pretty red berries that tend to get stolen by birds.
Very easy to grow, this deciduous climber will reach a height of up to around 7 or 8 metres making it perfect for climbing over pergolas, against walls and fences or twining among trees and shrubs.
It is hardy in all of the UK and northern Europe and loves a moist but well drained, fertile soil. Lonicera prefer plenty of sun but are shade-tolerant and will manage almost anywhere that isn’t waterlogged. The fragrance is strongest in the evening so bear that in mind when choosing where to plant it.
If your soil is poor and dry, add plenty of compost and mulch well every year after a spring rain. It will also need some form of sturdy support or a mature tree to climb up. Prune to keep it within bounds and remove old, dead and dying growth.
