Hebe ‘Ruby Port’ is a compact rounded evergreen shrub with a bushy habit producing rich green leaves that turn a sensational purple-red during the colder months of autumn and winter. It also produces spikes of beautiful white-tinted lilac flowers on colourful, warm yellow stems, throughout the summer months.
With its colour changing evergreen foliage that delights all year round, this Hebe is perfect for flower borders or beds and can excel as a low growing hedge. It can also be used in pots and containers such as window boxes growing to an eventual height and spread of approximately 60cm.
Look for a position of full sun or dappled shade with poor to moderately fertile, well-drained soils. It has a preference for moderately alkaline to neutral soil and should be protected from cold drying winds. It requires little maintenance and should rarely be affected by pests or disease however it can be damaged by aphids or downy mildew. Removing spent flowers after flowering may encourage a further flush of flowers.
