Hebe ‘Mint Chocolate’

Part of the RHS Plants for Pollinators collection, Hebe ‘Mint Chocolate’ is an easy to grow evergreen shrub that produces enticing, dark, cocoa coloured leaves offering sumptuous year round interest. During the summer it will also adorn itself with vivid mauve-purple flowers that are highly prized by bees and other pollinating insects.

A slightly larger than average variety of Hebe, this shrub will grow to a height and spread of around 75cm. This makes it perfect as a low dividing hedge or for mixing in among the front or middle of a summer border or bed. It is also ideal for city gardens and makes for an excellent low maintenance patio or container plant.

Able to handle a range of soils, it will grow best in poor to moderately fertile, neutral to alkaline, well-drained soil. Try to plant in a position of full sun with shelter from cold drying winds. Keep an eye out for aphids, leaf spot, downy mildew and root rot. Remove spent flowers after flowering to encourage a further flush of flowers.
