Hebe ‘Magic Summer’

A compact, bushy shrub, Hebe ‘Magic Summer’ produces a stunning display of leaves that emerge an overflushed reddish-purple, turning a variegated greyish-green with fine white margins as they mature. A member of the RHS Plants for Pollinators collection, it also produces dense racemes of lavender-blue flowers, attracting bees and butterflies to the garden.

Low maintenance and wildlife friendly, Hebe ‘Magic Summer’ will maintain a neat shape all year round, acting as a structural highlight in garden borders and beds. Reaching a height and spread of around 60cm it can also be used on a patio, in pots or containers, including in low maintenance window boxes. It can be a good idea to plant among other shrubs as this will provide extra protection from strong winds and will create a fantastic colourful display.

Try to find a position of full sun or partial shade with soil that is moist but well drained. Watch for aphids, tortrix moth, fungal leaf spot and downy mildew. Remove spent flowerheads to encourage a later flush of flowers.
