Gladiolus Giant Flowering ‘National Velvet’ is a combination of stunning purple and orange Gladioli that will make a beautiful addition to any summer flowering garden.

Giant-flowering Gladiolus will produce multiple vibrant blooms, resting above long sword shaped leaves in a breathtaking combination that is perfect for the back of a summer border. These blooms also make for excellent cut flowers to be enjoyed inside and out. We therefore recommend dual planting whereby bulbs are planted in separate groups; one for garden display in flower borders, the other for cutting throughout the summer.

Plant these bulbs in clusters of five or more in a position of full sun. Gladioli need water during the growing period and mulching with peat or compost to conserve moisture. It is usually necessary to stake the stems around 5 cm from the base, preventing damage to the bulbs. Plant the bulbs 10 cm deep and 10 cm apart. We recommend planting from March into June in intervals of two weeks in order to ensure a long flowering succession.
