Fritillary ‘Red’ (Fritillaria imperialisis a majestic, statuesque plant that grows a crown of bright green leaves, with bold orange-red flowers that suspend from the crown.

Bringing a touch of the exotic to gardens, the bulbs of this towering flower are perfect for planting at the back of a spring border as a backdrop to other flowering plants, or to be dotted amongst other flowers to give variations in height.

Alternatively, allow them to naturalise in wild gardens, rockeries, under shrubs or in grass, provided the soil remains moist during the growing period. They can also be cut and used for a striking indoor floral arrangement to make a real impression.

Plant the bulb around 15cm/6″ deep and 25cm/10″ apart from each other to allow space for the flowers to bloom. These bulbs are vulnerable to rotting when they sit in wet soil so will need plenty of grit. They are also fully hardy and can be left undisturbed for many years.
