Known also as ‘Foxtail Lily’ or ‘Desert Candle’, Eremurus ‘Stenophyllus’ is a showy perennial producing dense flower spikes packed with small, gleaming yellow, star-shaped flowers.
Reaching a height of around 100cm/40″, up above strap-shaped green leaves, these flower spikes gradually open from the bottom upwards, creating an evolving and long-lasting display.
A recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit, this variety is reliable and consistent, remaining virtually pest and disease free.
For a bold vertical accent in the garden, plant in front of a dark background, at the back of the border, in prairie plantings or as cut flowers. Plant in groups of at least five for the best visual impact.
Plant between August and November in a sheltered location to protect the Eremurus from strong winds. ‘Stenophyllus’ is winter hardy and should be planted just below the surface at a depth of around 2cm/1″ with ample space around it of approximately 60cm/24″ as it likes the sun to warm its tubers. Foxtail Lilies are not particular about soil conditions, as long as there is good drainage.
