The David Austin Susan Williams-Ellis® (Ausquirk) English shrub rose is a winter hardy, upright rose with a wealth of pure white blooms. It has layer upon layer of charming ruffled petals, that sit around golden yellow stamen to create striking floral displays. In addition to its wonderful blooms, it has a complex medium-strength old rose fragrance and an exceptionally long flowering season, which adds to its timeless appeal.
Known for its healthy and robust growth, it is fully winter hardy and grows in all soil types. It can be planted in a position of full sun or partial shade making it a versatile rose to enjoy in a range of garden spaces. The Susan Williams-Ellis shrub rose also has an abundance of healthy green foliage which adds to its ornamental appeal and accentuates the beautiful blooms throughout its long flowering season.
To get the best floral display from your shrub rose, plant it with Mycorrhizal Fungi to help the roots to establish and encourage good plant health. We also recommend regular feeding, once in late March/early April and again in July with Rose Food. Pruning should be done at the start of the year in January or February and after the first summer of flowers, when you can cut back all stems to 12″- 18″ (30-45cm) from the ground. In the next two years simply prune it back to half its height and after five years, you’ll only need to cut it back by a third.
This English shrub rose was bred by David Austin and is named after the founder of Portmeirion Pottery, who was a great enthusiast of the English Roses.
