From a distance the Dahlia ‘Pompon Mixed’ collection appear as vibrant ball-shaped blooms however up close these blooms reveal intricately exquisite and perfectly engineered honeycomb petal structures, a marvel of natural symmetry and precision.
For this reason, Pompon Dahlias are old-fashioned garden favourites that remain popular to this day, both in the garden among containers or borders and as delightful cut flowers.
These tubers should be planted during spring, after the danger of frost has passed and will often flower throughout summer and autumn until the first frosts.
Plant these tubers 15 cm deep and 60 cm apart into well drained soil with a good supply of humus.
To induce early flowering, these tubers may be started off in boxes from the start of April, using light soil mixed with peat. Keep the boxes cool and free of frost and plant the sprouted tubers when the dangers of frost have passed.
Keep the plants well watered and deadhead to prolong flowering. Cut back to near ground level in the autumn, before lifting and storing for the winter.
