A Canna Tropicanna ‘Black’ bulb produces incredible, smoldering orange-red flowers that grow on tall stems and sit above large almost black leaves. It creates a mesmerising display to admire and will give outdoor spaces a tropical feel.
Growing 1.5 meters tall, this bloom will add drama to your beds and borders or can be planted in a large container to create dazzling patio and seating area displays. With its simmering orange-red flowers, deep plum-coloured almost black foliage, this bloom looks wonderful combined with other hot-coloured hues. We love them planted with Coleus for its magnificent red and green foliage or Salvia Hot Lips for pops of red and white.
This exotic-looking delight will repeat flower and last through to the first frost. It is perfect for adding to informal spaces such as cottage gardens or, with its dramatic height and structure, it looks wonderful added to architectural spaces. It also has the added benefit of being attractive to bees and pollinators.
To get the best display from the Canna Tropicanna ‘Black’ bulb, plant it in a sunny but sheltered position, in moist but well-drained soil. Aim to give it a high potassium feed every 2-3 weeks during the growing season. Once the frost has blackened the foliage life the bulbs and store them in a barely moist compost, in a frost-free environment.
