Providing some colour before the summer flowers, Camassia leichtlinii subsp. suksdorfii ‘Caerulea’ grows tall, sturdy stems with racemes of deep lavender blue, star-shaped flowers. Flowering throughout May and June, these flowers will open sequentially from bottom to top creating an evolving and long lasting display.

These beautiful flowers are best planted in long grass in cool and moist soil, or in a countryside border. They will steadily naturalise over time, creating a natural look in any garden or wildflower meadow. They can also be planted in patio pots and containers, as well as being used as interesting cut flowers in flower arrangements. These bulbs can also be planted to transform a rough lawn.

Plant these ‘Caerulea’ bulbs 8cm deep in almost any kind of soil, and 15cm apart from each other to allow room for the flowers to bloom completely. These bulbs are best planted in an area there they can stay undisturbed as they do not like to be moved. They like sunshine or partial shade and a good supply of humus such as leaf mould or compost.
