Camassia leichtlinii subsp. suksdorfii ‘Alba’ is a bulbous perennial growing tall spires with dozens of star-shaped creamy-white flowers. Each flower consists of six showy tepals, a green centre and attractive purple stamens.

These tall spire-like blooms are beautiful planted in a border in front of a dark background or hedgerow to provide a strong contrast in colour. They are also perfect for planting in big groups in a wildflower meadow or wild garden and will effectively naturalise over their first few years after being planted. They can also be used as cut flowers.

Plant these bulbs 8cm deep and 15cm apart to allow room for the flowers to spread. Ensure that the bulbs are planted in an area where they can stay undisturbed for several years.

The Camassia ‘Alba’ can be planted in almost any soil type, provided there is good drainage, and yet will thrive and naturalise happily if left alone. They like sunshine or partial shade and a good supply of humus such as leaf mould or compost.
