The Betula utilis jacquemontii ‘Snow Queen’ Tree is a hugely popular variety of Himalayan Birch that has wonderful bright white bark that develops earlier, and sets it apart from other varieties of Himalayan Birch tree.

In addition to the magnificent white bark, this variety has beautiful mid-green ovate leaves that are complemented by delightful yellow and brown catkins in spring. This is followed by foliage that gradually changes into glorious golden autumnal shades. In winter, once the tree has lost its leaves, the wonderful silhouette and white bark take centre stage, creating true year-round interest to enjoy.

Due to the compact habit of this tree, it makes a wonderful addition to a wide range of gardens, from wildlife gardens to architectural spaces. They look particularly beautiful planted close together in groups to create a stunning multi-stemmed effect. With its light and airy canopy, it is also a great choice for underplanting – we love snowdrops to accentuate the beauty of the white bark.

It is also easy and reliable to grow and has been given the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit which recognises consistent and healthy growth, with its good disease and pest resistance.

This is a tough and reliable tree, so simply plant it in a bright and sunny position, in almost any soil type that is moist but well drained. You will then enjoy many years of wonderful foliage and ornamental interest to admire throughout the seasons.
