Aucuba japonica ‘Variegata’

Aucuba japonica ‘Variegata’ is also known as a Variegated Japanese Laurel.

Hardy and evergreen, it bears glossy green leaves with attractive creamy-yellow flecks. A female variety, small purple flowers followed by decorative red berries appear if pollinated by a male species.

Aucuba are easy to grow and care for if they are planted in the right place. For best results, plant in a sunny but partially shady spot in the garden. If growing in a container, reposition the pot to avoid full sun.  Aucuba are prone to black leaf, where prolonged, direct sunlight may scorch the leaves. Pruning will only be required after four or five years to keep them in shape. They are very hardy plants and can withstand cold weather well.
