Allium ‘Star of Persia’ (Allium Cristophii) provides any garden or outdoor space with a touch of drama. Intersperse these Allium amongst lower foliage and flowers and watch the purple flowers with a metallic sheen bob above them in the breeze.
Ideal for planting in sunny borders or in small groups among ornamental grasses, the blooms can reach up to 25cm in diameter. This makes these flowers the perfect option to be cut for flower arranging. Add a bunch of stems to a tall glass vase for a simple display, or arrange a few with a mix of other flowers and foliage. The Star of Persia also provides a gorgeous golden seedhead throughout the summer once the shiny purple flowers begin to fade – two looks in one plant.
Allium Cristophii are easy to maintain and fully hardy, so will withstand almost anything the British weather throws at them. Simply plant these bulbs 15cm deep and 20cm away from each other, to leave room for the blooms, and ensure that there is no excess moisture in the soil.
