Opened in August 2019 in state of the art retail premises, Gates Farm Shop focuses on offering the finest locally sourced produce, complemented by the best from national and international producers, as well as quality Beef and Lamb supplied from our own farm in the village.

Goods In Assistant – Farm Shop

Full-Time, Permanent

Gates Farm Shop is seeking a Goods In Assistant to join our large farm shop just outside Oakham. This is a full-time, permanent position, working five days a week including one weekend day.

Gates is one of the largest destination home and garden centres in the UK, established 75 years ago by the Gates family. Set in a beautiful rural location, Gates Farm Shop has a focus on offering the finest produce, sourced locally wherever possible and including beef and lamb from our own farm in the village. Still owned and run by the Gates family today, we offer customers great value with a focus on delivering traditional, genuine and friendly customer service.

The Goods In Assistant works within our small and friendly farm shop team. You will thrive in a busy environment, working accurately and methodically. Ideally, you will also have a keen interest in food and drink. This role includes direct contact with customers, so a smart appearance is essential, along with great customer service skills.

The role:

  • Liaise with suppliers regarding booking in deliveries
  • Organise traffic flow of delivery vehicles for unloading
  • Ensure the goods in, stores and yard areas are well maintained and secure
  • Organise the receipt of goods into the Farm Shop
  • Check goods on arrival and input into the stock system
  • Ensure the accuracy of shipments and check condition of goods received
  • Liaise with the Farm Shop Manager regarding the storage of goods
  • Liaise with department heads regarding the onward movement of goods
  • Assist the Dispatch Centre with preparing goods for delivery when required

The ideal candidate:

  • Previous stock room experience is preferred, but full training will be provided
  • Able to safely and efficiently move and handle stock using the correct equipment and procedures
  • Highly accurate and reliable
  • Must be computer literate
  • Excellent organisation skills with great attention to detail
  • Responsible, reliable and trustworthy
  • Flexible with a ‘can do’ positive attitude
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and well organised
  • A good team player with a friendly personality
