Opened in August 2019 in state of the art retail premises, Gates Farm Shop focuses on offering the finest locally sourced produce, complemented by the best from national and international producers, as well as quality Beef and Lamb supplied from our own farm in the village.

As we continue to expand, we have a range of jobs available on a permanent and temporary / seasonal basis.


Retail Assistant Farm Shop

Full-time, Permanent

Gates Garden Centre is seeking a full-time retail assistant for its large farm shop, working five days per week including weekends.

We offer great value to our customers on a wide range of speciality food goods. We support this with a focus on delivering “old fashioned”, genuine and friendly customer service.

Our retail assistants are very important as they represent Gates when they serve many hundreds of customers every week. This is an important responsibility and comes with a high degree of trust. A strong sense of commitment and attention to detail are essential for this role.

The role

  • Serving customers quickly, efficiently and in a friendly manner
  • Ensuring customers have the best shopping experience, both in the shop and at the checkout
  • Excellent product knowledge in order to advise and answer customer queries
  • Caring for stock (rotation is key) to ensure customers leave with food in perfect condition
  • Handling deliveries
  • Keeping the shop in great shape and looking its best at all times
  • You will be required to cover occasional other shifts when colleagues are absent on annual leave

About you

  • You will have previous customer service and / or shop & till experience
  • A flexible, team player who is energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about the role
  • Excellent customer service skills and a friendly personality
  • Professional, responsible and well-presented
